Today is the sixth and final installment of our series on taking charge of your own health care. 

So let's discuss a different way to get stronger and more mobile. This is a gentle approach. It works with your body, not against it. 

You might think getting in shape means pushing yourself to the limit.

But there's a different way to approach this, that leaves you feeling energized, not exhausted. 

You should look forward to moving your body, not dreading it. And you can. 

At RiversZen, we believe in three simple ideas to get strong and flexible. 

One, gentle exercises that make you more flexible, stronger, more comfortable in your body. We're talking resistance stretching, yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi. These are all painless and enjoyable. 

Second, breathing exercises. These help you heal and get stronger. By focusing on your breath you can reduce stress, get more oxygen in your body, and feel peaceful. This is much more powerful than you could ever imagine.

We all think of ourselves as being breathing professionals because we've been doing it our whole life. But you know what? There's much more to it, and we'd love to get into that with you. 

Third, combine breath and movement into practices that make you feel more fluid, eases pain, and connects your mind and body. This is Qigong. It is absolutely one of the most amazing discoveries I have ever come across. And it was the final piece in the puzzle for our health and longevity, combining breath and movement. 

And fourth, is the encouragement of using tools like yoga straps and therapy balls and stability balls that can help you to move better and release tension.

Now I know starting a new fitness routine can be scary, especially if you're in pain or recovering from a recent injury or even a chronic injury.
